DNAPL Forensics

Forensics involves a complex set of analytical schemes. From a simple Tier 1 analysis through a complex Tier 2 analysis followed by Tier 3 isotopic analysis. This presentation will focus on the Tier 2 DNAPL Forensics. DNAPL forensics involves matrices such as crude oil and heavier oils.  This presentation involves discussion of Saturated Hydrocarbons, PAH/APAH and Biomarker analysis based on the characterized product from the Tier 1 Whole Oil Analysis. Mechanisms to determine the source of the product and the various weathering patterns will be highlighted. Determination of the characteristics of a product such as petrogenicity, pyrogenicity or biogenic transformations that occurs in the environment. Diagnostic ratio determination and application of statistical methods for source determinations will be discussed. Case study will be presented.  

Dr. Doss has more than 40 years’ experience in the analytical chemistry field. Dr. Doss’s expertise spans chemistry, environmental analysis, hydrocarbon chemistry (gas and liquids), forensics, industrial hygiene (managed an AIHA accredited lab for 10 years), Air analyses (TO compendium methods), Dioxins/Dibenzofurans, PCB Congeners, emerging contaminants – PFAS, 6-PPD, 6-PPDQ, microplastics, biota analyses, hazardous waste management, client services, management of laboratories, laboratory builds, data validation, data management, laboratory audits, litigation support and QA services.    Dr. Doss received his Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center with honors, where he was a Law Review Editor and is licensed to practice law in Louisiana, currently.  He earned his Ph.D., Engineering (Environmental Science) from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK.  M.S. in Chemistry from Wichita State University, Wichita, KS.  B.S. in Chemistry from Loyola College, University of Madras, India.
